Save the date: SocialChangeCamp is on

It’s been a while in coming (we know) and we’ve had to push the date back from August to September (we’re sorry), but we’re pleased to finally announce a date and venue for the first SocialChangeCamp in New York City. We’re pleased to say we’ll be back with our friends at the Roger Smith Hotel, home of SocialMediaCamp NY 2009, and of course, SM4SC NYC 2009 in April, on Saturday, September 26, 2009. More details will be forthcoming, but at this point, we need your help in three ways!

  1. Tell your friends about us! Retweets, reblogs, etc are welcome. Everyone is welcome to attend, but we’re going to stick to the overarching theme of “Social Change 2.0” - how social causes can better use technology to reach their fundraising goals. The event is best suited to those who work for non-profits, NGO, museums, schools and other organizations who are looking to bring their fundraising / advocacy to the next level.
  2. Volunteer! If you’d like to help us put on the event, drop us a line at sponsors[at]sm4sc[dot]com. We’ll be holding the first meeting of the organizing committee soon.
  3. Sponsor or underwrite us! We’ll be keeping to the BarCamp spirit with a maximum donation of $250, which means to keep the event free or inexpensive, your contributions are welcome. We also need a 501(c)3 organization to underwrite the event so we can make sure the donations are tax-deductible. If you want to sponsor us in cash, or in-kind donations or can help us underwrite the event, please contact us at sponsors[at]sm4sc[dot]com or drop us a line.

SM4SC Sings: A National Day of Karaoke - This Wed June 17

Sorry for the repost - but the first Tumble had a typo in the date.   We’re doing this on June 17 (this Wednesday).  All proceeds will go to the fine folks at North Shore Animal League America.

Check the page for an updated list of events, but what we really need is people in cities outside NY to throw some events as well.  The basic premise - get some friends together, have a few drinks, and sing some karaoke on Wednesday and encourage folks to donate $1 per song (or $2 for rickroll, or Britney, or wax poetic as you feel would be fun) to our online FirstGiving page.  Of course, ANY donation of any amount is welcome.  If you’re interested in throwing an event, email me at matthew[dot]knell at Gmail.

We’d love to raise $1,000 in events across America, and we hope you’ll can be a part of helping us to do that.  Fun really CAN be functional!

Most of the data relates to the central question of the role water might have played in the planet’s past, and a new paper in Science, describing Opportunity’s exploration of Victoria Crater in Meridiani Planum, a plain near the equator, is no exception.
